GB 31604.51-2021 National food safety standard Food contact materials and articles Determination of migration amount of 1,4-butanediol
1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination method for migration amount of 1,4-butanediol in food contact materials and articles.
This standard is applicable to the determination of migration amount of 1,4-butanediol in food contact materials and articles which are plastic, coated or using adhesives and inks.
2 Principle
Food contact materials and articles are soaked in food simulants or substitute solvents so that 1,4-butanediol migrates into the food simulants, and the amount of 1,4-butanediol migrated into the food simulants is determined. Aqueous, acidic and alcoholic food simulants are tested after being diluted with methanol, while oily food simulants are tested after being extracted with methanol. Each test solution is separated by a gas chromatographic column and tested by a gas chromatograph equipped with a hydrogen flame ionization detector (FID), subjected to qualification as per the retention time and quantification as per external standard method.
3 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise specified, analytically pure reagents, and Class-I water as defined in GB/T 6682, are used for the purpose of this method.
3.1 Reagents
3.1.1 Olive oil: Must comply with the requirements of GB 5009.156, Annex A.
3.1.2 Acetic acid (C2H4O2).
3.1.3 Ethanol (C2H6O).
3.1.4 Methanol (CH4O).
3.1.5 Acetone (C3H6O).
3.2 Reagent preparation
The 4% (v/v) acetic acid solution, 10% (v/v) ethanol solution, 20% (v/v) ethanol solution, 50% (v/v) ethanol solution and 95% (v/v) ethanol solution are prepared according to GB 5009.156.
