WARNING - Persons using this document shall have normal laboratory practice. This document does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health measures and to ensure compliance with any national regulatory conditions.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the principle, test equipment and apparatus, sample, testing requirements, testing procedures, evaluation of test results and test report for the hydrostatic pressure testing of metallic tube.
This document is applicable to the compactness and/or strength test of steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metal tubes under the internal pressure of pressure transfer medium.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
specified testing pressure
testing pressure within the hold time (3.2)
3.2
hold time
a period of time holding the specified testing pressure (3.1)
3.3
pressure transfer medium
liquid medium transferring pressure, usually water, oil, or emulsion
3.4
pressure applying rate
change of pressure per unit time during application of pressure
3.5
pressure removing rate
change of pressure per unit time during application of pressure
3.6
destroy test
test in which the testing pressure is increased continuously until the metallic tube leaks or bursts
4 Principle
Under the conditions of specified pressure applying speed and the pressure transfer medium, apply the pressure of the metallic tube to the specified pressure, hold the pressure for a certain period of time to check whether the metallic tube leaks or bursts, so as to evaluate the compactness and strength of the metallic tube.
5 Test equipment and apparatus
5.1 The test equipment shall at least include pressurization system, pressure display instrument, pressure measuring system, sealing device and timing device.
5.2 The pressure display instrument shall be calibrated in accordance with JJG 52, and its accuracy shall be Grade 1 or higher.
5.3 The accuracy of the test pressure measuring system shall reach 1% of the full scale, and it should be equipped with automatic recorder.
5.4 If the level of accuracy or precision of the test equipment is stipulated in the product standards or agreement, it shall comply with the product standards or agreement.
