GB/T 4743-2009 Textiles - Yarn from packages - Determination of linear density (mass per unit length) by the skein method
1 Scope
This standard specifies a method for the determination of the linear density of all types of yarn in package form.
It includes seven optional procedures based on different methods of conditioning and preparation. Since the different procedures do not give the same values, it is essential that the procedure used is selected according to those specified in the product standards and agreed by all Parties interested.
This standard is applicable to all types of yarns, including single yarns, multiple wound yarns, folded (plied) yarns and cabled yarns.
This standard is not applicable, except by agreement, to yarns with an elongation greater than 0.5% when the tension increases from 0.5 cN/tex to 1.0 cN/tex. Such yarns may be tested under special conditions if they are accepted by all the Parties interested in the test results.
This standard is not applicable to yarns having a linear density greater than 2000 tex. For such yarns, other skein lengths and special conditions of reeling may be adopted by agreement of the interested Parties.
2 Normative references
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) to, or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply to this standard. However parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
linear density
mass per unit length of a yarn, expressed in tex or its multiples or submultiples (see GB/T 8693 and FZ/T 01035)
3.2
commercial moisture regain
arbitrary value formally adopted as the moisture regain to be used with the oven-dry mass when calculating the linear density or the commercial mass of any specific textile material
Note: In the absence of prior agreement, the convention moisture regain rate can be used instead of the commercial moisture regain to calculate the linear density of yarns in this standard.
