Respiratory protection - Non-powered air-purifying gas mask
1 Scope
This document specifies the classification and labelling, technical requirements, marking and packaging of non-powered air-purifying gas masks and the information provided by the manufacturer, and describes the test methods.
This document is applicable to gas masks based on the non-powered air-purifying principle.
This document is not applicable to non-powered air-purifying gas masks used in anoxic environment, underwater operations, escape and firefighting hot zones.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 12903-2008 and the following apply.
3.1
non-powered air-purifying gas mask
air-purifying protective equipment that relies on the wearer's own breathing to overcome the resistance of the parts and protect against toxic and harmful gases or vapours, particulates (such as toxic fumes and mists), etc. which are harmful to the respiratory system or the eyes and face
3.2
full mask
mask that fits snugly over the face and covers the eyes, face, nose, mouth and jaw
3.3
half mask
mask that fits snugly over the face and covers the mouth and nose, or covers the mouth, nose and jaw
3.4
protective time
duration required for the concentration of the test medium in mask to reach the limit once the test medium starts to be introduced in through the gas filter under the specified conditions
3.5
gas filter
cartridge
canister
filter component used for non-powered air-purifying gas mask that filters out toxic gases and/or vapours from the inhaled air
3.6
combined filters
filter component that simultaneously filter out toxic gases and/or vapours and particulates from the inhaled air
Note: A combined filter with a replaceable particulate protection component is of combined-type, while a combined filter with a non-replaceable particulate protection component is of integrated type.
3.7
inhalation valve
one-way valve only allowing inhaled air to enter the mask but preventing exhaled air from being discharged out of the mask
3.8
exhalation valve
one-way valve only allowing exhaled air to be discharged out of the mask but preventing inhaled air from entering the mask
3.9
inward leakage; IL
ratio of the concentration of simulant leaking into the mask when the subject inhales to the concentration of simulant in the inhaled air under specified conditions
3.10
dead space
volume of gas that has been re-inhaled from a previous exhalation
Note: It is expressed by the volume fraction of carbon dioxide in inhaled gas
3.11
breathing hose
airtight hose for connecting a gas filter to the mask
