1 Scope This Standard specifies terms and designation principle of raw hide, product-in-process, leather production process, physical and chemical analysis and sensory inspection, leather defect skin and leather parts classification etc. This Standard is applicable to tannery industry. Reproduced leather may also refer to it. Formulation, quality comparison, enterprise management, technical exchange, teaching material preparation etc. shall all adopt this Standard. This Standard is not applicable to man-made leather and synthetic leather. 2 Hide and Skin for Tanning Industry It refers to the skins and leathers whose basic original materials in leather-making industry are taken from various animals (mainly domestic animal), including the skin which has had anti-corrosion treatment or not before processing. Synonym: raw hide 2.1 Designation Principle a) Dividing according to place of origin and road. Because of different animal origins, leather fiber braided structure will make a difference which influences the leather variety and quality, so raw hide production place and road shall be described. For example: scalper leather in Nanyang road Levant in Hankow road; import leather etc��. b) Dividing according to feature. Arrangement may according to weight, size, gender and growing state. c) Dividing according to animal name. For example: scalper, buffalo goat, ovine, pig etc. d) Dividing according to anti-corrosive preservation or processing mode. For example: salted dry, salted wet, lighted dry, frozen storage etc. Non dehydration and unmetamorphosed peeled from animal body plus word "fresh". e) Finally plus word "hide". For example: Nanyang Road scalper salted dry hide Jining Road hircine lightness dry hide (U.S.A.)Import heavy bullock wet salted hide Pig fresh hide 2.2 Nominating According to Animal Name 2.2.1 Pig skin It refers to an important type of raw hide in leather-making industry. It is characterized by gross pore, rough surface, nonuniformtexture structure of leather, large difference in position. Because of the tough character of pigskin, it may be made into every kind of leather and applied universally. 2.2.2 Bovine hide It refers to an important kind of raw hide in leather-making industry, mainly including a great many varieties of scalper leather (including different coat colour), as well as buffalo hide and yak leather. Bovine hide may be made into every kind of leather and applied extensively.
